Change in the weather

Last night we had a lovely dinner at our friends' home, discussing the government, the problems facing the UK, and I wish I could say putting the world to rights but that does not seem possible with all that is going on in the world right now!

After one sunny day after another we finally had a change in weather today - rain in the village and we think there was some snow up in the mountains. This is the view this morning as the clouds started coming down, at the moment there is no visibility as the cloud coverage is low and it is raining. Usually when it rains at village level it means snow above the tree line so we think we will try to ski tomorrow in the hope that there has been some. The lack of snow is worrying in Europe, and I fear that it will affect the economy of the towns that rely on their winter tourism to survive.

We had a nice walk with Xena before the rain came in - the golf course is closed in winter as usually it is covered in snow, but as there is no snow there it makes a good place for her to walk. We walked over the golf course and then down into the village where we had a coffee at our favourite cafe, then back up the hill home again. I made a tomato and lentil soup for lunch.

The electrician was in the building today installing power cables for charging units for electric cars as that is now a standard requirement here If you wish to have a charging unit in your parking bay you have to pay for that individually. Gavin has requested one as he has an electric car (and is nagging me to change my car for an electric car too)

Not a good start to the year in the UK as people return from their Christmas holidays to go back to work and four out of five trains are cancelled due to the rail strikes. Many people cannot work from home and their livelihoods are being affected.
