Buffet

Yesterday was our first day in Sol, and again I was put with Sami. We were both in a rather hyper giggly mood (poor Jim who had to manage us!) and in montaging managed to decide on a team name (Jami)...but for when Jim said it we were 'Brave Jami Murder'. In case you are wondering why, say this with a very broad Scottish accent and you will see why we were amused! It really is the little things when you are doing such a long job...

Knackering day as ever, but we had decided that we were all going to go as a group to the all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet in Les Sables for our dinner, so we ended up arriving there at about ten o'clock at night, and proceeding to attempt to eat the entire buffet. The best thing about this restaurant (apart from the food!) was the fact that they were playing dance music as background music...what then occurred was a dance-off with our table and another table across the way. The really funny thing was that no one was actually drinking, just drunk on life I guess! However, the best was yet to come. As the campsite really is in the middle of nowhere at night, we were going to get taxis back. The only problem was that when the proprieteur tried to ring for one to get the twelve of us back, he couldn't even get through to the switchboard! So then began the strangest journey of my life...the guy then said to me that because he couldn't get us a taxi, him and three of his workmates would take all of us home. Now only two people actually knew the way back home, and then only one of the people who were driving us could speak French. So the person who knew the way came in the front car with me and two others...only to find that the person who knew where they were going didn't, and we had to go all around Les Sables until we found a landmark that everyone knew! This strangeness was added to with the choice of music in the car...dance music, played very loud. So we were in convoy, going down the road, going the wrong way a few times...with everyone speaking their second language to get their point across. The problem with where we live is that it is quite in the middle of nowhere, not very well lit and next to a very dark forest. I genuinely think the man thought we were going to kill him. Anyhows, we all got back safe and sound after a rather strange journey.

My night, however, did not end there. I ended up talking on the phone with Thomas for a bit...then for about two hours with Thibaud. God knows what we were chatting about, but we managed it. It is really nice to know that I can have conversations at any point with these guys. Really do miss them at the moment.
