A Day In The Life

In Mourning

One of the first things I do when arriving downstairs in the morning is to peek outside to catch a glimpse of any wildlife visitors we may have • Today, this sweet mourning dove was resting on the snow covered patio wall. She seemed so content with not a care in the world. We have a large group of them this year, at times counting up to 18, but that was before yesterday. Today, the group is minus one • Upon arriving home from getting groceries yesterday I heard MrsP exclaim “Oh, Oh, what happened here?” She had stopped in her tracks while walking towards the front door. There, scattered all over and around a winterberry bush were small downy white and medium-sized brown feathers. I almost took a photo because the tiniest feathers adorned the tree like ornaments. It was obvious what had happened. A waiting hawk swooped in for a dove breakfast while we were away. I’m glad to have missed it • May peace be with this dear little one • It’s been lightly snowing all day, what we refer to as “nuisance snow”, because it never really adds up to much • Happy Weekend to you!
