"SHHHHHH.....DON'T TELL ANYONE OUR SECRET"

BLACK-TAILED PRAIRIE DOG (Cynomys ludovicianus) aka Sod Poodle. Typically found in North America west of the Mississloppy River.  These live in the zoo in Milwaukee, WI.

It's Silly Saturday and these two appear to be gossiping about something.  Anthropomorphic, I know, but it looks so human like, doesn't it?  It's rather silly...one sod poodle telling another to keep the secret.  Apocryphal!

I've Blipped these critters before.  They live in large colonies sometimes covering many many acres. They are rodents, their teeth grow continuously as in all rodents, so they must chew constantly to wear them down or they will grow to a point where they can no longer chew and then starvation results.

Depending on where they are, the species may be of least concern or endangered.  In Colorado, they are endangered due to loss of habitat and a viral infestation called Sylvatic Plague.  It can eliminate an entire colony in a matter of weeks.
