The calm before the storm...

...figuratively, and literally.

After six months of persuasion, before Christmas Dad reluctantly agreed to go to the local “Memory Club” run by Age UK, held at the local Baptist Church, as long as I went with him for the first session to help him settle in. And that was today. After an early start (4.30am for me!) the minibus picked us up and delivered us in the sunshine. Half way through the session, just before lunch was served, Dad became extremely anxious and unwell and we had to leave. The plan had been that while Dad had lunch with the group, I would leave and meet up with a friend for a much postponed café visit, now postponed again! Getting off the minibus (which the organiser very kindly arranged to take us home early), we then got soaked as the skies opened and we were caught in torrential rain, complete with thunder.

The plan had also been that after the first session Dad would then attend unaccompanied, thereby giving me four hours to myself once a week; something I’d really been looking forward to, and need. That plan has now gone out the window, along with tomorrow’s plan to take Dad to his first Music for the Mind session.

Thank you for your kind comments yesterday, but today wasn’t any better...

(Sorry for such a gloomy journal.)
