Last Day

Our last day in Dominica, before we move on to St Lucia, and we still had a few things to tick off. So today’s adventure was an excursion to the  north of the Island . Firstly we went to the Indian River and were rowed upstream past places which were used in the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean . It was beautiful peaceful and very jungly. We had rum punch at a resting place then returned to the taxi.
We saw the Cabrits National park which was slightly underwhelming, but the History of Fort Shirley which is part of the Park was interesting.  From there we went to an area called Syndicate. It used to be a banana growing area for a syndicate of growers, but the Americans apparently persuaded the UK to buy bananas from the USA’s own banana growing syndicate in Central America and the Brits agreed, ruining the Island’s banana trade at one blow.
A tiring day. Packing this evening for the next part of our hols.
