When All Else Fails...

..choose a book for a blip! There is always one around somewhere!

Today the sun did not come out; it was yet another dull, dreary, gray day that did not motivate me to go in search of lovely landscapes...but it was not a wasted day by any means...

I finished reading The Marriage Portrait by Maggie Farrell, the book for our next book club meeting. I was motivated to read it a while ago as I had really enjoyed Hamnet, by the same author. I like historical fiction and I found her portrayal of the death of Shakespeare's son really interesting and enlightening.

The Marriage Portrait, a fictional account of the life of Lucrezia de'Medici interested me too. It encouraged me to review the poem My Last Duchess that I had not thought of since we studied it in school (!) as well as to delve back into the story of the Medici family of Florence. I stopped off at the library to pick up the book The Medici - which I know I will not read through to the end, - it looks quite intimidating - but will give it a try. At the same time, I am searching for Medici - the TV series  - as I would like to watch it again..I am hoping it is on Netflix by now but have not yet checked.. I am totally down the rabbit hole!

I do love books that send me elsewhere! And I love this quote I found in an old Reader's Journal of mine..

" There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them." Joseph Brodsky (1940)
