The last week of class

Someone I went to school with died this morning of a heart attack. Women are apparently dying of heart attacks at younger ages. Women’s heart attacks are weird, they are harder to recognize. In her case, she had heart surgery earlier and was already expected to have open heart surgery in six weeks, so I suppose it is not a complete shock to her family, but

Country music singer Brad Paisley is the newest ambassador for Ukraine's United24 fundraising platform, Paisley "will promote the Rebuild Ukraine direction" and will create "a personal fundraiser for one of the damaged buildings in the Kyiv
region." Zelensky created United24 after Russia's invasion. It serves as Ukraine's primary platform for donations. United24 directs the funds it receives toward defense, demining, medical aid, and rebuilding.


A number of Ukrainian officials have resigned for corruption. This is a good thing - corruption is something that Ukraine needs to get under control to join the EU and NATO and maintain the support of the West. 


Russian lawmakers on Monday proposed placing restrictions on citizens attempting to leave the country. That is the way to reassure your people. If the bill is passed by the State Duma, it will go into effect on March 1.

The U.S. plans to send up to 50 MI Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Germany will send 14 Leopard 2 A6's. Germany did not want to go it alone. 

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi co-hosted the G7 meeting, in which countries vowed to continue coordinating on Ukraine's efforts to "modernize and decarbonize its energy grids.”

A Swiss parliamentary body proposed on Tuesday waiving a ban that prevents ammunition it manufactures from being reexported from another country to Ukraine. Switzerland has rejected previous appeals fromnGermany to allow it to re-export Swiss-made ammunition to Ukraine, saying such a move would violate its neutrality. But pressure has been rising for Bern to review its policies, including at the World Economic Forum it hosted in Davos last week.
