Arrivals

Colour version in extras, couldn't decide.

Up bright and early to collect S from the airport. They have finally, after years of work, opened the new arrivals building. It's very swanky as you can see, so swanky that only passengers are allowed inside. If you're meeting someone you have to stand outside in 2C temperature and a 50 kph gale. Luckily S was first off the plane, with only hand luggage, and I was still texting him to say I'd wait in the main building when he came out. Very efficient, we were out and on our way within the 15-minute free parking slot.

S had got up at 3 a.m. British time so he was knackered and went straight to bed to catch up on sleep. He'd recovered by the evening ... we went to Capendu to see Zzaj, by the Duo des Cimes. It's an awkward drive in the dark along unmarked country roads, but it was definitely worth the trip ... hilarious and completely bonkers. It features two rather deranged characters who are doing a live radio show on the history of jazz and discover to their horror that the producer has decided to have an audience in the studio. It's really hard to describe, a combination of music and clowning in which the two of them play all the instruments -- four different guitars, drum kit, keyboard, and trumpet. You have to be good musicians to play like this and fool about at the same time. There's no video online, but I think that must be deliberate as it works best when it's a complete surprise. Highly recommended! We hung around for a short while afterwards as the musicians joined the audience for a chat, but soon decided to go home. All the shows we've been to at this venue have been very poorly attended, I don't know why.
