Beannachtaí Bhríde

The pace continues! Up before dawn this morning to head over to Squince Harbour for an early morning pilgrimage to St Bridget's Well lead by Gormú. About 25 of us gathered and did a 5km walk in incredibly scenic surroundings - lots of extras but they well be going soon!  The well was originally on the island but moved to the mainland either because  a) a man let his donkey wade in it or b) pilgrims drowned on their way back from a lively pattern day and St Bridget eventually picked it up under cover of a cloud and thoughtfully placed it n the mainland. It's a gorgeous walk and a stiff climb down to the tiny well. A great crowd of pilgrims some of whom then flung themselves in the sea afterwards- Finola and I resisted and went off for brunch in Skibbereen!  French toast with maple syrup and strawberries, typical pilgrim fare.
The first day of Spring, and the start of the festival of Imbolc!
