Bolton

LauraMuir kindly sent us this photograph for our online album of shots to represent the locations mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and available as a podcast series). The building is Bolton town hall. Thank you LauraMuir for your contribution!

Lorna refers to Bolton just once in her diary, on 31st March 1940. This is with reference to a trip to the 'dangerous industrial north' of England for Easter 1940. (Easter was very early that year, with Easter Sunday falling on 24th March.) Listen to Lorna's great-great niece - actress Bethany Ray - voice act Lorna speaking about the trip in Episode 4 of our podcast series.

We still have several shots to find for this album - please see the list below. If you have a suitable shot - either of a place(s), or something that could represent it (them) - please send your contribution(s) (not previously blipped) to h.hall@napier.ac.uk to feature alongside the others that we have been blipping here since 13th July 2022

To make this task achievable, please note that you do not necessarily need to send us a shot that is literally of a place to join in this challenge. If you look back of our photographs for the River Marne, Dakar and Chad, for instance, you'll see that there are ways of representing locations without actually having been in situ to photograph them. For example,  Munroist4113 suggested yesterday that someone who has visited Guernica by Picasso in the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid could send us a shot of the picture snapped at the time of their visit. Then we could take Guernica off the list below. Similarly, a photograph from a page of an edition of the Song of Roland (Chanson de Roland) that includes mention of Roncevalles could be blipped here.

We look forward to hearing from more friendly blippers with their contributions. Here is the list of places still sought:
