Sunshine on Snowflake

A perfect spring-like day today.  Wall to wall sunshine and pleasantly mild after a frosty start.  C and I took the Megs for a long walk through the forest this morning, up above Abergynolwyn and round towards the old quarry workings - extra pic.   We had it all to ourselves.  Wonderful.  There was one scary moment when my Meg, having scrambled up a steep slope above the path, came down at a rush and missed the best route, ending with a leap from above our head height, a pancake landing on the stony path just in front of us.  She bounced back up and trotted off looking ok but on checking her over we found she had a cut under her chin.  Not large but it bled for a while although she seemed oblivious to it.  This evening it looks ok and it should heal without any more attention than keeping it clean.  A lucky escape.

Back home, a shaft of sunlight through the board fence caught my eye, catching this twin-flowered snowflake.  Leucojum vernum, with it's green tipped lampshade flowers, likes damp places and adds extra interest to my winter border which is home to many snowdrops too.

After lunch and assorted admin jobs, I got started on a long outstanding job in the front garden.  I've planned for another raised sand bed but cannot source reasonably priced sleepers any more.  The plan is use polystyrene fruit/veg boxes, cutting them down and coating the visible bits with hypertufa, a mix of sand, cement and soil-less compost that I have used for covering boxes to make troughs.  Pictures will follow in due course.

Then it got dark and I was forced indoors.   Food, admin, relax, bed.
