Vivid colors appeared across the sky this morning, which is typically not the norm here. With the exception of MrsP it’s the prettiest thing I’ve seen today • So, I was wondering if today’s date held any significance in history and discovered the much beloved stuffed animal, the Teddy Bear, was first introduced • The backstory is that Morris Michtom placed two stuffed bears in his candy shop window in Brooklyn, NY, on this day in 1903, advertising them as Teddy’s bears • His wife, Rose, made the bears, as she made other stuffed animals • Morris had previously requested permission from US President Theodore Roosevelt to use his nickname Teddy • Why Teddy and why a bear? • Roosevelt was an avid hunter and a story was circulating at the time that he had refused to shoot an old sickly bear on a recent hunting trip • The stuffed bears were an instant hit and before long US toy manufacturers began producing them in increasing numbers :) • Did you have a favorite bear growing up?
