Luau!

Monday February 13
Just loving waking up in the morning to the sound of the dawn chorus - bird sounds and calls that are new and diffferent to us. After breakfast enjoying the view, we spent the morning at the beach (see extra), reading, swimming and having a go at snorkeling. We had done it many years ago, but it’s been a long time, and I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it after all these years. We didn’t see many fish, but after a while I felt I was getting the hang of it again. In the afternoon we spent a few hours at the pool, and again watching whales out at sea, before going back to our room to shower and change before the Luau, which started at 5pm. As we walked to the area on our resort complex where the luau was being held, we saw a lovely rainbow above one of the buildings - see extra. We were seated at tables for 8, though we had a single young lady at ours, so we only had 7, a recently retired couple from California, who have a time-share on Maui and come regularly, a younger couple from New Mexico, and the single girl was an ICU nurse from California. The food, of which there was plenty, featured typical Hawaiian dishes, and was served on a lazy Susan in the centre of the table. The food is accompanied by lively music and vibrant cultural performances from Hawaii and greater Polynesia, and was set against a backdrop of a beautiful sunset - a wonderful evening!
