Makeena State Park

(Backblipping our Maui trip)

Tuesday
We once again enjoyed breakfast on the balcony of the restaurant, enjoying the sun and the view. It was a calmer morning this morning, and a couple of outriggers were out at sea, from neighbouring resorts. We were also treated to the sight of another rainbow. We were moving on today, up the coast a bit to another resort, but this time with self-catering accommodation. However, we didn’t need to vacate our room until noon, so we had plenty of time for a walk along the coastal path before we left. Before heading up the coast, we first headed south a little way to Makeena State park, an undeveloped area of coastline, featuring three beaches, including Big Beach depicted in my collage, a gorgeous stretch of deep golden sand, over a mile long. I didn’t actually go in the sea here as my skin was feeling a little tender from yesterdays sun exposure, so I stayed mostly in the shade of a tree, but Roger went in, and then later in the afternoon we both for a walk along the beach to the far end, where the waves were breaking against the black lava rocks. Late afternoon we drove up to our accommodation for the next nine nights, a little north of LaHaina. Along the way we went through a brief shower, but then there was a magnificent double rainbow - see extra. Since we hadn’t had chance to shop, we ate out at Duke’s, the restaurant on the complex.
