Dominic and the Goldeneyes

Today's the day ................... to identify

Dominic and I are pretty pleased with ourselves today.

It really was a beautiful spring day and we went for a walk along the River Tarff to see what birds we could spot.  Of course, that particular route is where there is always the chance of seeing a kingfisher, although that didn't happen today.  But there were plenty of other birds on and around the river - and we had a lovely time ambling in the sunshine.

It wasn't until we got home though and were checking up in Dominic's birdbook - that we realised that we had actually seen some quite special ducks.  We had been watching a group of four, that I thought were possibly goosanders.  I had managed to take a picture of them (see extra) although it wasn't the best.  But there was no doubt that they were in fact - goldeneyes - a first for both of us.

Such a nice name for a duck too .....................!
