Flower Power

A day at the Alpine Garden Society Pershore show.   Around the turn of the century I was a regular at these shows at venues around the country.  It was a grand day out today, meeting friends old and a few new, buying a few specials from the sales tables and I even put a few pots on the benches.   I'm pleased to have picked up one second place and one third place.  I'm not sure I'll ever match the amazing displays that some other growers achieve .... but I'll have some fun trying!   Alpine plants are famous for their flower power, often tiny plants which can completely cover themselves in flowers.   Above are details of two hepaticas, Primula allionii and Dionysia afghanica.   Some more in extra pics.   Two of the folk running the show were friends from my showing days and I was able to help out, entering results on the computer just as I used to do at the East Anglia show run by my old AGS group in Norfolk - an extra pic from behind the screen.

There are many more shows in the months ahead, all around the UK.   At venues including Loughborough, Hexham, Kendal, Kent, Devon and more.   A full list here.  Specialist Nurseries at all shows for those who get bitten by the bug!

PS.  None of my plants feature in the pictures here :-i
