Sparkling sea

The Coral Discoverer anchored early this morning in calm water just off Maria Island on the east coast of Tasmania. We went ashore a couple of times during the day. The Darlington Point area, on the norther tip of the island, has interesting history: it was a convict settlement in the 1830s, and there was a cement works there later.

The photo shows Coral Discoverer anchored in the Mercury Passage, with the ‘mainland’ beyond. When on a small island (Maria), the bigger island (Tasmania) becomes the mainland. Words can be slippery.

We walked around the Darlington Point area - see extras: wombat, wallaby, Cape Barren Goose.
