Suffering

Well that was a surprise. 

After lunch I walked into town to the library to return a couple of books and look for new ones. Usually these jaunts involve just borrowing/returning books, and often a coffee too. 

Today I ventured upstairs to the art gallery for no particular reason, and found... 

"...an art installation that tells the story of Anna, a young Polish refugee driven from her home during World War II, and her long search for ‘somewhere to stay’. Part of a wider project on how we visualise war and its legacy, it is designed to generate fresh conversation about forced migration in the 21st century."

How topical. 

Anna's exile started in Siberia, hence the posters in my Blip. "Siberia! You can live here!" is the slogan on the middle one. Many died there. 

My first Extra is the opening part of the installation. The other Extra is a cabbage patch created from plastic and spent rifle cartridge cases. It represents the guards' cabbage patch at the gulag were Anna was exiled. Prisoners were not allowed into the cabbage patch. At night she would crawl under the wire and nibble the leaves. The guards assumed animals were doing it.
