Football Trivia

The media informed me this morning that today marks 150 years since the formation of the Scottish Football Association.

Queen’s Park was one of the 8 founding members.

Andrew Watson is widely credited with being the first black person to play international football, playing 3 matches for Scotland between 1881 and 1882.

He was a Queen’s Park player at the time, and led them to Scottish Cup wins in 1881 and 1882. He captained the Scotland team twice, and on the first occasion they beat England 6-1 in London.

I was talking to Junior about football last week, and discovered he was not aware of his grandfather's connection with Queen's Park. My understanding is he was not able to break into Spiders' first team and went back to playing university football for a while.

Yes, it has been one of those Mondays when leafing through the family archives seemed like an attractive pastime. It rained almost all day, the exception being when the rain turned to snow in the late afternoon.
