Afternoon at the Conservatory

Tuesday 7 March
A wonderful day today. The weather was sunny, but much cooler. After our usual Music Live at Lunch at Christ Church cathedral downtown, a string quartet today, we went to Krohn Conservatory in Eden Park, to see their Spring seasonal display. This year it’s entitle Bunnies and Blooms, and has been created to appeal to a wider age range, including children. In the centre are a couple of rabbit hutches, with a run for them, surrounded by a low white picket fence. Then amongst the Spring blooms, are several little depictions of scenes from children’s books featuring bunnies - see extra collage. Unfortunately, the bunnies were all dozing in their hutches, and not scampering about their runs, so they don’t feature in my collage. We also visited the other areas, the desert, and tropical rain forest, and these areas are exhibiting numerous ceramic works of art by local artists, interspersed among the plants. They were for sale, but most of them were rather strange and at about $1,000 to $2,000 a piece, we shan’t be rushing out to buy one!!
The beauty continued outside, where the Magnolia grove was in full bloom, about three weeks ahead of most years I would say, certainly compared to last year’s photos, and too soon for the upcoming weather, as winter is about to make a return appearance, with several frosty nights coming up see second extra collage).
