Tubular Bells

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mike Oldfield’s iconic album, his long time musical arranger Robin A Smith has assembled a group of musicians to undertake a U.K. tour, performing the seminal work live. We went to see it at Chester’s Storyhouse Theatre last night and were blown away by not only how good the musicians were, but what an uplifting experience it was to listen to the music live in full orchestral glory.
Tubular Bells was the main part of the show, but we were treated to sundry other Mike Oldfield works before the interval - Ommadawn and Moonlight Shadow being particularly memorable. Some people obviously hadn’t read the blurb properly when booking the tickets, as I heard several queries as to when Mr Oldfield was going to appear! I’m not sure why they thought he would perform for a few hundred people on a Sunday night in Chester - especially at £30 a ticket!
Back to Kendal this afternoon with a very full car. Possible interest in our Chester flat, so we thought we’d start clearing non-essential stuff out so there won’t be as much to do if a sale does result. We did make time for a quick visit to the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet in the way home but sadly (fortunately?) the few things we liked weren’t available in our sizes so we left empty handed. I could almost hear my credit card breathe a sigh of relief as we turned onto the motorway…
