Girning

Not being able to attend yesterday's bookgroup meant I was able to out with the Tryst walking group today.

Eight of us headed up to Loch Moraig and made our way around the bottom of Beinn a' Ghlo where were crossed Allt na Grinaig.  Girnaig means crying and the river was certainly noisy as it narrowed and fell down a narrow cleft.

We continued onto Shinagag ( knoll on the old road)and then returned by a slightly different route which took in some shielings (and which necessitated a bare foot crossing of Alt an t-Sidhein by the two of us who didn't reckon we could leap from the stepping stone to the bank; the water was freezing !).   The walk was lead by CL, a local historian, who has studied the area extensively and so was able to tells us interesting tales of the ruined settlements we passed.

A real good walk with surprisingly good weather.  It was fascinating watching Beinn a' Ghlo being revealed as the mist lifted and we heard curlews, heard and saw skylarks and saw frogs  guarding their spawn (as well a producing some more ! )
