The Memorial Park

Pleased to say our friend John is recovering well. He can walk short distances with a stick and has told the carers he doesn’t need them anymore as he can now manage on his own.
We picked him up this morning and took him into Cleckheaton to register at a new doctors, and so while waiting had a short walk round the town.

The top photo is the King Edward V11 Memorial Park.
The War Memorial was unveiled on 11th November 1922.
This replaced a bandstand which was at the centre of the Park. Unfortunately I can’t find out when the Park was first built.

However I was very saddened to see it now looking so neglected. I remember it years ago when it was the pride and joy of the town, and it’s gardeners.
The bottom photo was taken in 2010.
The whole town is supposed to be getting a ‘ makeover ‘ but I don’t think it includes the Memorial Park. We will have to wait and see.
