The second half of life..

By twigs

Christchurch Art Gallery

Rain this morning then by lunchtime, there were promising signs of it all clearing.  Headed into the big smoke just for something different.  It's been a few years since I've been here and whilst there have been plenty of changes, there are also plenty of signs of stagnation.  It's hard to believe that the big quakes happened over 12 years ago but still buildings remain boarded up and decaying, plots remain empty and of course, the Cathedral remains in pieces (extra).  2027 is the planned goal to have the cathedral project completed.  I have no idea about the rest of of the decay.  On one hand it's so sad, but on the other, the new developments and vibrancy are also invigorating.  One thing is for sure - it will never be the Christchurch it once was.  This building was built in 2003 and, despite being covered in glass, withstood the earthquakes which says a lot about new building codes and techniques. I've included a single reference image in extras for those who don't know the building.

I couldn't resist a little PV play with what is an utterly unique building.  It would have been better with a few more people around/golden hour light/a host of other excuses, but I enjoyed the playing anyway.
