Wet chalk

I creep out of the house to go back to Swindon to collect Megan. There is a ridiculous amount of water on the roads. Puddles deep enough to cause mums little car to struggle. In fact the whole road up to Chisbury is more like a stream, and I was struggling against the flow.

All three of us went to view a house in Great Bedwyn this morning. It’s ideal, if not perfect. Still big, but much smaller than her current one. The only negatives are the steep stairs and the pokey downstairs toilet - both of which could be sorted.

Across the road to the Three Tuns for lunch. The menu looks ok on paper, and is not bad for village pub food.

I drop mum back at her house and head for Avebury with Megan. The stones are busy in the village, but I’m going to take her to Devils Dev.

The rain has stopped, but the ground is still soaking. On the early stages of the walk we have to negotiate deep puddles and slide through thick mud. My shoes are going to need a good clean.

By the time we cross the Ridgeway, the sun has come out. The valley of stones is silent and there are four birds of prey circling majestically overhead (extra). There’s no one here at all, but fresh offerings have been left at the stones (extras) and there’s even a small, laminated, Christian prayer card lying in the grass ;)

We retrace our steps and head home. Mum rings to find out where we have got to. And then it’s back to the domestic routine. I cook an omelette and Megan bakes banana bread. And then we settle down to Charade - a classic.
