"Cadillac Of The Sky"

I decided to go bug hunting this afternoon and just as I was preparing to swap to the macro lens I heard the sound of a Merlin engine, thinking it was a Spitfire approaching. Not so, it was a North American P-51D Mustang. These planes have Packard V-1650 Merlins, a version of the Rolls-Royce Merlin aircraft engine, produced under licence in the United States by the Packard Motor Car Company. The very original 'Tall In The Saddle', built in 1944 and still bearing repairs to combat damage, is part of the Hangar 11 collection at North Weald.

Quite a few bugs on the blooming blackthorn including my first bee-fly of 2023.
