Sgwarnog: In the Field

Fringe

The meadows along the south facing fringe of Spring Wood are still the only spots where I’ve seen butterflies this year. There was a cool wind, but it was sunny, and in these sheltered spots I saw 20 Comma and a single Peacock. This was one of several Comma nectaring on Blackthorn.

I had a couple of glimpses of something small and furry on the ground, but it hid well under last year’s dead bracken. It didn’t seem big enough to be a stoat, so possibly a weasel, or maybe just a long, skinny vole.
