Water Rail #35

Well, we couldn't have ordered better weather for our two days in Cumbria - it's been wall to wall sunshine! Happy days.
We started the day at Foulshaw Moss  seeing 3 new birds(osprey, willow warbler and tree sparrow) and getting super views of the not-so-shy water rail. We found a couple of basking lizards and enjoyed the amusing anecdotes of one of the volunteers who regaled tales of years gone by of the ospreys that have nested there for the past few years. A fabulous start to the day.
We then moved on to Leighton Moss again in search of the elusive bittern, but it was not to be this time - plenty of booming was heard, but not one peep from a single bird - busy with other things I guess.
We did see more signs of new life in the making - the pair of Great Black Backed Gulls were not making much of an impression on the Canada Geese, but seemed happy with each other (see extras).

My husband said I should have put them as my main blip with the title "It started with a fish.....never thought it would come to this"  sung by Hot Chocolate  ;)

I liked the water rail better :)
