Moss Sporophyte

Another in the "walk to the bins" series.  It was a nice warm spring day.so I wandered back more slowly than of late.  I was particularly looking at the Lichen on the dry stone wall.

I noticed some sporophytes on one of the mosses but they were over the top of the wall and I couldn't get a decent shot.  Then I noticed this single one just to the side of where I had been looking.  As the name sporophyte suggests the capsule contains the spores, the moss equivalent of seeds.
