Move over Monet

For a few moments the diffused evening sun lit the trees and water then the downpour started. It was exceptionally beautiful but I have no idea how or why my camera has gone all impressionist on me - I haven't switched on 'photo creativity' nor is this post-processing.

The boat is Corpus Christi barge. A hundred years ago many Oxford colleges had barges, used as crew changing rooms and viewing platforms for rowing races. They were all different but were modelled on the ornate London city guild barges used by livery companies for river ceremonies in the 17th and 18th centuries. They were very expensive to maintain and were replaced by fixed boathouses on the river bank from the 1930s. This was the last to be built and is one of the few remaining.  It's now used as a houseboat.

Thanks so much for all the generous comments and stars the last few days. I'm sorry to be doing so little in return but things will slow down soon.
