Jays on the Deck

This is a composite photo of the jays on the deck. I took the photos this afternoon after Arvin and I returned from our day. I fiddled. Press L for large.

Good news from the wonderful doctor who did all of the mental tests for Arvin a couple of weeks ago. He does not have any form of dementia including Alzheimers. Phew! That is a major relief. He does have some mild cognitive impairment in the areas of language, recall and executive functions. This is in the normal range for people of his age which is 84. Dr Markosian went through all of the tests and we talked about how to help Arvin in the areas where there has been some decline. We both were very relieved since we had noticed that there were issues that had not been there before and we were worried. Arvin had taken similar tests in 2007 with the same doctor so she was able to make comparisons and give us the details. She kept reiterating to Arvin that he should not feel bad about himself in the areas where he has some decline. Where he is now in those areas is normal and not pathological. Thank goodness. I am going to work on being better at keeping him clear about what is going on and letting him work on his own word loss unless he asks for my help. The doctor also suggested that it was best if he not drive. Actually he hasn't been driving much at all for some time so this is not a big problem for us.

We had a long conversation with Arvin's daughter in Boston this afternoon as well. We are both looking forward to being with her in less than a week. We all need some time together. She was relieved to learn about her father too.

We went to my brother's for dinner with him and his roommate Carol. She made a delicious fish soup and home made ice cream. Boy was that good!

Time to go spend some time with Arvin. I may not get to much commenting tonight. If I can I'll do some commenting tomorrow. Have a great night or day.
