Guilt

As I walked through Dublin Castle on my way to Trinity this morning I felt a sense of guilt, since it was the seat of British colonial rule over Ireland. Later I passed a striking memorial to the victims of the Famine, the worst of the British atrocities in Ireland (see extra).

At the conference my talk went well, even if mine was the least mathematical of the day. It was good to meet the organiser, whom I've known for years, as we have much to collaborate on now. She also took out €250 in cash for me, as I begin the task of living without the debit card that was eaten by a cash machine this evening!
