Quite a pleasant but very knackering day after littleA woke us up all excited at twenty past five this morning TWENTY PAST FIVE because she was desperate to go for a walk on portobello beach again.

After breakfast and a short walk along the prom to the guesthouse where my inlaws are staying we walked up to the main road and hopped on the number 26 to Princess Street (mr man driver almost toppling us on our arses by speeding off before we'd had chance to get halfway to our seats, the grumpy impatient bugger*) then walked up to Regent Road so I could estimate how long the que of starters will be tomorrow morning (massive) and the proximity of the start line to Dynamic Earth where the EMF and Macmillan Supporters Hubs are located (close but not close enough for a 3yr old with already tired legs). LadySp33d and her parents took littleA back into the centre in an attempt to see a few things typically touristy whilst I went off to do my own thing (I later found out she lasted about twelve minutes before being overwhelmed by all the noise and people and somehow managed to get her head stuck in railings for a bit so was reduced to a heap of tears until some kilted bagpipe-playing buskers entranced her). Dynamic Earth was great, a fab hub for the marathon weekend. I wish we'd all just taken a taxi there to begin with and chilled out with a picnic by the fountainy water-feature things instead.

We spent part of the afternoon down at Portobello beach which had morphed into the Costa Del Edinburgh with more sunburnt backs on show than an episode of Benidorm, before having an ice cream and heading back to our sleeping place for showers, carb-loading Spaghetti Bolognese and to get ready for an early night.

Tomorrow is the big day, when all my training for the past 5 months hopefully comes together and pulls me along the 13-odd mile route without stopping or having an asthma attack. I'm looking forward to it far more than I ever thought I would.

*Who insisted on asking us what stop we wanted go to so he could print each of us a bespoke ticket even though the price is advertised as a flat rate to any of the stops on the route.
