Old Lime Kiln

There are several of these old Lime Kilnsin our area. About ten years ago they were repaired and restored. This one is at the National Trust Jack Scout site near Silverdale.

They were used to produce Lime which was spread on the local farm land to help
To relase Nitrogen from manure.
The kilns were fed from above with limestone and with locally produced charcoal.
