GWR Railcar No 20

A rare view of No 20 in the Carriage and Wagon works at Tenterden. This locomotive arrived on the KESR in 1966 and pulled on of the first passenger trains when the railway opened in 1974. It ran for 5 or 6 years until being withdrawn. It has been under restoration ever since. A final push, with grants and fund raising will hopefully see the loco returned to service next year.

Another good day on the railway at Tenterden Town signalbox. All worked well with 257 Squadron drawing in the crowds once again. It’s a fine locomotive, powerful and elegant, something I never expected to see on the railway let alone have the pleasure of seeing and working with at close hand.

The extra is 257 waiting to depart Tenterden with the last train of the day. More information on Railcar No 20 can be found here: https://kesr.org.uk/our-heritage/diesels/
