Cowslip

Season of the Cowslips are here, a beautiful humble flower. The romantic Swedish name "Gullviva" (golden primrose) translates into the more earthly English name "Cowslip". As a  non native speaker of the English language one wonders if the word is to be understood as a 'cows lip' or a 'cow slip'. The etymology says the word may originally have been 'cow slop' associated with the cow-pats where the flower often could be found. Another explanation refers to slippery, boggy ground, a typical habitat for 
the plant.
