A day in the life

Walpurgis

Last night of April has long before Christian times been a day for celebration, halfway between the spring equinox and and summer solstice as the beginning of summer. Then, the Catholic church claimed the day as a celebration of the missionary Walpurgia, later Saint Walpurgia in an attempt to make any pagan ritual into a Christian ceremon.

In our small part of the world, some fifteen friends and neighbours has used the evening setting fire to a huge bonfire of twigs and wooden debris celebrating spring with food and drink. The photo is taken just before we left the glowing heap at around nine o'clock. There is no wind warnings for the night and what's left of it can be seen by neighbours, there should be no risk for spreading.
