A day in the life

Flamingos

At the birthday party yesterday we were celebrating a person born in 1960. The same year five guys formed a band playing light dance band music, they called themselves "Flamingokvintetten" The flamingo quintet. The band was playing at the theatre in Kalmar this evening and I was working. It was sold out, the band are still very popular but they don't play at the dance halls anymore, they play in theatres for a seated audience.

Two of the guys forming the band are still active, the base player, who does all the talking and the singer, the two at front left, the rest of the original members are dead or too old and have been replaced, the guitarist to the right is a legend on his own, he used to play lead guitar in "The Spotnicks", one of Swedens biggest pop orchestra during the sixties.

As a band they sound very tight, they play the same songs as they always has, that's what their fans wants to hear, and they play well, despite three of them being around 80. Their music is nothing I ever cared about but I'm admiring their skill, wit and energy on stage and in their music. There's never a dull moment during the two and a half hour show. Hats off, I hope I can keep on another few years, they probably will too. The audience was ecstatic and tried to dance in their chairs, most of them being between sixty and seventy.
