Malahide Castle

Yesterday, Carl offered to do some laundry for me and I dutifully stuffed stuff into a bag. It was only after he’d left that I spotted the bag, still waiting in the hall. Not to worry, says he, I’ll come back over tomorrow and pick it up. He did. As a thank you, taking advantage of the nice sunny day and keen to get away from house arrest because of not being able to drive, we set off for Malahide Castle. We had a great afternoon there. Lunch in the Avoca café (not great), a bit of a browse around their shop and the rather nice-looking information centre, a bit of fresh air in the nicely dappled inner courtyard, and finally (and rather childishly, perhaps), a trip in the little tourist train from the castle grounds down to Malahide village itself and back. It remained bright and sunny, but there was a chilly breeze that made the experience more bracing than we’d expected. On the way, it was strange how many of the people we passed felt the need to give us a little wave.
