Limoux

Today was departure day for the group flying home to Thunder Bay Canada, (extra - I am in the back with no glasses) so that left just three of us. We chose to not go on an outing but instead, to stay at le Monastère to finish our packing, check out the weekly market and take one last walk about the town; who knows when or if we will return so we wanted to take some last photos as well.

One photo that says “Limoux” for us, is the bridge over the Aude river. We have crossed that bridge and walked the shore many times. The most memorable view of it unfortunately would be the time we were there when the Aude flooded. It happened overnight, caused loss of life and devastated villages upstream; when it reached Limoux, the still raging water flooded the streets on each shore.. swept away cars, trees and debris. It was a frightening thing to witness and even now when I see that lovely river flowing gently through the town, I am reminded of how vicious it can be.

Our day ended with a lovely dinner for the three of us prepared by our host and served in the courtyard under the wisteria. How lovely is that?

Tomorrow will be our departure day and with that thought comes some trepidation about whether everything will go smoothly…picking up the rental car, driving to our rental cottage, meeting our host and hoping he and the house live up to our expectations.
