Ducks and geese with a
river wader  - waiting for
a thunderstorm soon...

~carliewired

I was across the bridge and into Riverside Park by 6:30. The sky is gathering for a thunderstorm this morning. The light along the river is dim.

I started my short walk near the railway bridge. Canada geese were all around the bridge and seemed to be squabbling about landing rights on the bridge. I can't see it as an ideal nesting location due to the frequency of trains, so I don't understand why the bridge is such a focus.

There were several ducks feeding along the shoreline. I caught a mallard and a wood duck, each with their mates.

A pair of Canada geese escorted their little brood across the river and made land on the park's beach before I got to the pier. The pair moved slowly keeping the little ones safely between them.

My surprise was watching a fellow wearing a headset walk down to the beach, peel off his foot wear, hoist up his pant legs and wade into the river. He stood there for several minutes in silence before returning to the walkway with his footwear in hand. The air temperature would have been about 13 C but I can't imagine that the water was very warm.

I walked out to the end of the pier to get a shot of my mountains to the east and the Overlander Bridge in the west.  My long shot of the confluence shows how much beach has disappeared under water with our warm temperatures of late.

I came home by 7:30 with my breakfast in hand. I'm in for most of the day stitching away. There's a storm brewing so it is the best place to be.
