Ponta Delgado

As our trip yesterday had been cancelled we booked one for today to tour the island and see the famous blue and green lakes (one has a basalt base and the other limestone). However the bad weather from yesterday was still around in the morning so a very musty valley put paid to seeing much. Our guide was lovely and very apologetic about the weather, hardly his fault though.

A wee wander through the town centre for a bite of lunch and then back to the ship after a pitstop in a cafe to avoid the worst of a downpour.

Booked ourselves into the steak restaurant for an early dinner just after we departed en route to Cádiz and we were treated very well. The food was delicious and the service impeccable.

Watched the guest act Otis Canelloni, an illusionist and comedian. He wasn’t the best and seemed a bit overawed at the 1000+seat theatre. Perhaps he’s better suited to smaller venues as apparently he’s been on the circuit for 40 years.

Headed back to the cabin to find the stewards had decorated the door with a happy birthday banner and balloons and inside were many more decorations and a birthday cake made out of towels plus many turn down chocolates scattered over the bed instead of the usual two!

A lovely surprise orchestrated by Mr PHL for my birthday tomorrow.
