Poppies

I got a surprise when I opened the door this morning. The first of the poppies had opened. I hadn't noticed any buds starting to split, I counted about 150 buds. 

They are growing in completely the wrong place, well, no, clearly it's ideal for them, but they are spreading along a 6" band of gravel between the path and the patio. I don't want to disturb them as I'm sure to kill them off. I just wish I'd put the supportive stakes in while I could actually see the gravel. Their quick growth catches me out each year.
