Boiling point

The initial plan was to head to Keswick, but the wee ones requested a picnic on the beach at Roanhead instead.

With this being equidistant to Keswick from Kendal, I was happy to go with the popular vote, so packed a picnic and off we went. The weather was glorious with a slight nip to the wind, so we found some space just off the main beach and protected by the grass. We sat and ate our picnic staring across the golden sands to the lakeland hills beyond.

The wee ones played in the sand beautifully as they made their own castles/fortresses and were perfectly happy until some complete a*sehole of a dog owner came by with two labradors that were not under his control and they proceeded to jump up at, and knock over the wee ones. It was one of those things that I could see was about to happen, but was unable to prevent. The kids were terrified and I was livid, so let the a*sehole in question (who had not and did not apologise) know what a complete a*sehole he was. He walked off, completely uncaring, leaving the wee ones sobbing in his wake.

I deplore violence, I really do, so it was probably a good job that the a*sehole did go on his way to continue his selfish a*sehole life. My blood was boiling and I was fully prepared to do something really stupid.

If people can’t control their dog, they should keep it on a f*****g lead. Not all of us want their animals charging over and bounding up at us* as they cheerfully call out: “Don’t worry, he/she/it won’t hurt you” (not that we even got that much), which does not make it OK.

Phew, I’ll take my ranty trousers off now…that incident aside, the wee ones recovered and we got back on track with our lovely day. On our way home, our eyes were taken by directions to an ice cream stand we were not previously aware off, so we stopped and devoured four very generous ice creams before returning home for a delicious picky tea and a slice of Eurovision madness.
