Langdale

A day of fairly mundane but necessary jobs – a bit of housework this morning, then a drive to Kendal to get the windscreen replaced this afternoon. When we left the car at the repair shop we were asked to return in a couple of hours, so we passed the time wandering around the town. Smithers got away relatively lightly with that because Beales the department store has now sadly gone, which we already knew, so I wasn't able to browse round the fashion department as I might well have done in the past! However, the windscreen set us back a fair amount, so it was probably just as well.

I had hoped instead to re-visit the Abbot Hall art gallery, but hadn't done my homework and sadly we found that it was closed. I now know, because the website tells me, that it closed in 2020 for a major refurbishment, and it is due to re-open this Saturday, 20th May, so we missed it by five days.

We were just about to dive in to Farrer’s for a coffee when Smithers’ mobile rang; it was the receptionist at the windscreen repair shop to say that we could pick up the car in ten minutes, which was earlier than expected, so we made our way back, picked up the car and drove back to Langdale, not having managed to take a single photo I'm afraid.

So, for the first time this holiday I am presenting you with an emergency blip – a view from outside our lodge, looking across the lawn towards the country club, swimming pool and open air jacuzzi. (None of which we frequent!) The little stream in the foreground has been diverted from the Great Langdale Beck through the estate, and it then rejoins the river a short distance away.
