Wound up in Wexford

By Neatwithice

Welcome to the newest addition to our household

Husky - rather an obvious name for a Husqvarna robot mower.

J came this morning, laid various wires with his fancy machine (see extra), and helped us get set up.

Husky has been programmed to work from 10am until 9pm.  He has an interesting "modus operandi".  Our robot vacuum is fairly logical in its approach - it will go round the edges and then criss cross across each area.  It keeps a record of what it's done, which can be seen on the app.

The mower, on the other hand, seems to just go in a straight line until it meets the edge wire, or an obstruction (such as a tree).  Having met something that tells it, or forces it, to stop, it backs off a short distance, turns through a variable angle, and sets off again.  Presumably the logic is that this will eventually ensure complete coverage of the area.

This evening, whilst we were out shopping, Husky managed to push over the barrier on one of the "graves"* and get stuck on the concrete.  W had to lift him out on our return.  Our plan is to backfill these 'graves", but that's a lot of soil to shift, even if it's not very far.  Until we've refilled the graves, the edges are guarded by bamboo uprights and sides, and these are perhaps a little flimsy; the one he broke has been reinforced.

I thought this photo, taken quite late in the evening, so his lights (which are always on) were visible, made him look quite sleek and almost like a racing car

* the concrete pads laid for the PV structure - see extra here - are just the right size for burying a body!
