Last Day - Avila

We decided not to have a day trip today and enjoy a kinda relaxing day in our own neighbourhood in the old town, within the city walls of the old town of Avila.

We set off after breakfast in Garnier Cafe. Two fartons, lol, yes they are really called that, two for the price of three croissants, mine toasted with jam , two coffees and all for the sum of a fiver in our money. Jeez we are really ripped off in the UK. I saw in a shop in Valencia the very same dog food that we fed Breagha and it was exactly half price than what we paid for it!

We had a lovely walk right round the outside of the walls. What struck me , again, was that everywhere is so clean! It’s all very wide paths with trees and plenty of seats and bins. It’s all washed down by some lorry type machine early each morning and saw the rubbish picker up guy patrolling about. Decided to walk again up the hill that gives you the view over to Avila. We sat there in the sunshine for about an hour just relaxing and taking in the beauty. There were big storks flying around and saw a few nests on the way back.

Time for lunch and we went to a place in the plaza. They had a menu of the day. Four choices of starter, main and dessert with bread and a drink for 14 euros. S chose some broad bean dish sorta like a soup I had the tuna salad which was tasty. The main, it was a meat dish with home made chips and a dessert he had the rice pudding and mine was like a mousse. It was all delicious and served by a lovely young waiter from Argentina who we had a bit of a chat with.

It was getting warmer so went back to hotel to change and then another relaxed walk in another part of the city. Sat on a bench overlooking the mountains and then picked up a fridge magnet on our way back to the hotel. We sat out in their patio garden which is built into the old walls, read some of the book and then up to pack for home tomorrow.

We’ve enjoyed staying here. The hotel is marvellous, quite new and really quiet at night in the room. The quality is first class and it was the right choice for the last four nights. I originally had booked an apartment but cancelled (free cancellation thankfully) it last week and booked the hotel instead.

Not as tired tonight but still did a lot of walking. My Fitbit stats for the last seven days came in and the amount of miles walked was 55! Impressive.
