Flossmo

Golden cones

Oh goodness, since the Golden Cones appeared next to The Maltings in Farnham a few weeks ago they have caused a lot of controversy, or at least that's what the local paper would have you believe. I have been meaning to blip them for a while but today the traffic was so slow through the town centre that I was able to leave Mr Flossmo in the driving seat whilst I nipped out and took a photograph.

The installation is known as A Hand's Turn and was created by a couple of local artists. The cones can be spun around and they make a bit of a noise whilst doing so. They were apparently inspired by the conical shape that appears on buildings across the town. The project was a collaboration between The Town Council and The University for the Creative Arts and the funding (£19,500) seems to have come from 'Section 106 Environmental Enhancement' money whatever that means.

Anyway, people are now carping about the look of the installation (tacky), the waste of money (better to fill Farnham's potholes), the noise that the cones generate and the fact that they look out of place. Someone even complained it reminded them of Madonna's bra... In fact the near neighbours have raised a complaint with the local planning department. Ooh la la. They're a staid lot, the good citizens of Farnham.
