Living my dream

Different bean

Yesterday, as well as picking the dried runner bean pods, I also picked all the ones that were still green. The beans inside aren't black and burgundy in colour, as the dried ones are, but a glorious combinations of pinks and purples.

Because these beans aren't dry they will be cooked immediately and made into Mima's famous baked beans*. They are amongst the best comfort foods for cold wet days, of which we have several on the horizon.

It has been an extraordinarily sedentary day, except for a much-needed long walk with Bean, who ran about happy to be outdoors despite the light rain. She has spent much of the day snoozing in front of the pot belly stove, with no complaints.

Having finished the Cheddar I started a couple of weeks ago, today I cut into a three month old Wensleydale cheese. It has a crumbly texture, but with a creamy flavour. I ate a chunk of it with an apple at lunchtime: it's a match made in heaven. A bit like basil and tomato, or chocolate and orange.
